Mezcal production is typically carried out by the men in the family, but women have long played important roles too. Female mezcal smugglers made sure mezcal was sold during Mexico's prohibition, and today’s mezcalilleras are emerging as a strong force in the marketplace. Emma Janzen, together with Graciela Angelees Carreno of Mezcal Real Minero and Niki Nakazawa of Neta Mezcal will examine how women have made their mark in mezcal’s history, and explore their opportunities in the industry’s future.
