Skurnik Wines & Spirit
Amanda, 36, graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Art History. While pursuing her degree and after graduation, in Ann Arbor and Savannah, she worked in pubs, expanding her spirits knowledge and perfecting her approach to hospitality. In 2011, she followed her dream of moving to New York City to pursue a degree in Graphic Design at Parsons School of Design, tending bar at a local spot in Queens. Throughout her education bartending had always been a means to an end: a career in graphic design with an emphasis in hospitality branding. But after joining the opening team of celebrated cocktail den, Pouring Ribbons, and being immersed in the intricate world of cocktails, she experienced an exciting shift in focus. Amanda’s strong foundation in art and design informed her role as Creative Director at Pouring Ribbons, where in addition to developing new cocktails, she produced all of the bar’s housemade syrups and infusions, and designed its uniquely visual menus and promotional materials. She is fascinated by the life cycle of a cocktail, starting with its inception as an idea, to its manifestation in the glass, to the carefully chosen words and images that help to represent it on the menu, to the final satisfying moment of the customer’s first sip.
